ACORUS CALAMUS VARIEGATUS  $6.00 / DIV

(Variegated Sweet Rush) Big, bold, green and white grass that looks especially good when viewed as a clump from twenty or thirty feet away. Mix it with Japanese Iris or Gunnera. Sun. Water or moist soil.  1 m (3').  Zone:4 

CALAMAGROSTIS ACUTIFLORA KARL FOERSTER  $5.00 / DIV

Excellent tall grass. Creamy white flowers in summer. Plum seed heads remain all winter. Great massed. Sun to part-shade. Average, well-drained soil.  1.2 m (4').  Zone:5 

CALAMAGROSTIS ARUNDINACEA OVERDAM  $5.00 / DIV

An absolutely beautiful grass. Pink, cream and green arching leaves with pale purple inflorescence. Sun. Average, well-drained soil.  1.2 m (4').  Zone:5

(Frosted Curls) Delicate fine leaf. Beautiful pale chartreuse colour. Evergreen. Sun to shade. Most soils. Avoid extremes of wet or dry.  20 cm (8").  Zone:6

(Hair Sedge) A mounded, clumping grass. Thin, dense growth with a warm brown hue. Has survived submerged in our fish pond.  Evergreen. Sun to part-shade. Most soils.  30 cm (1').  Zone:6 

CAREX DIPSACEA   $4.25 / DIV  

Arching, clump-forming sedge with unusual colouring. Evergreen, deep olive-green overlaid with bronzy glaze.  Sun or shade. Bronze colour may fade in deep shade. Brownish-black catkins on short spikes in summer. Most soils.  45 cm (18").  Zone:7   

CAREX ELATA AUREA  $4.25 / DIV

(Bowles' Golden Sedge) The strongest yellow of all the grass-like plants, having only a thin green margin. Spikes of brown and green appear early summer looking like fat caterpillars. Sun or part-shade. Moist or wet soil.  50 cm (20").  Zone:5

(Orange Hair Sedge) Light orange-rust shade on a softly, upright plant.  Evergreen. Sun to part-shade. Most soils.  45 cm (18"').  Zone:7

(Variegated Japanese Sedge) Evergreen, clumping grass.  Lightly variegated and narrowly yellow-margined leaves.  Good for edging, groundcover, containers. Sun or part-shade.  Moist, well-drained soil.  30 cm (12").  Zone:6

(Umbrella Sedge) Hardiest of the papyrus. Light green leaves with gold seed heads lasting from May until December. Very attractive. Excellent in pots or tubs or as a marginal plant. Sun. Wet or boggy soil.  75 cm (30").  Zone:7 

DESCHAMPSIA CAESPITOSA NORTHERN LIGHTS  $7.00 / DIV

A showy, easy to use grass. New green leaves have gold variegation that changes over time to creamy-white with pink tips. Graceful clouds of hazy flower heads on tall, erect stems appear throughout the summer months. Forms a dense clump. Sun to part-shade. Most soils.  40 cm (16").  Zone:4 

HAKONECHLOA MACRA AUREOLA  $6.00 / DIV

Delicate, bright yellow leaves with rich green stripes. Gradually forms a mound of arching, overlapping leaves giving a waterfall effect. One of the best dwarf grasses. Sun or light shade. Moist, well-drained soil.  35 cm (14").  Zone:6 

IMPERATA CYLINDRA RUBRA  $4.25 / DIV

(Japanese Blood Grass) Mid-green leaves at the base with vibrant blood red tips. Very slow to establish. One of the last to emerge in the spring. Sun to part-shade. Moist, well-drained soil.  45 cm (18").  Zone:5

(Black Mondo Grass) Unique black-bladed grass. Good for vampire gardens. Makes a superb foil for gold-leaf plants or blue or red flowers. Flowers followed by neat black berries. Not a fast grower. Sun or part-shade.  Moist, well-drained soil.  Flower: Lilac; July-Aug. 20 c m (8").  Zone:6 

PANICUM VIRGATUM HAENSE HERMS  $4.50 / DIV

(Red Switch Grass) Narrow blue green leaves with red overtones turn to brillant red in late summer. White seed heads turn purple red in late summer. Looks wonderful with light coming from behind. PENNISETUM ALOPECUROIDES VIRIDESCENS  $4.50 / DIV

Spectacular specimen. You just want to stroke this one! Reddish- black, fat, cylindrical flower clusters in the fall. Lush, arching, dark green foliage with reddish overtones. A touchy, feely grass. Sun. Well-drained soil.  1 m (3').  Zone:5 

PHRAGMITES AUSTRALIS VARIEGATUS  $8.00 / DIV

Big, impressive and sure to grab attention. Long, pointed, wide, variegated leaves encircle plume-like, silky, hairy, yellow gold panicles. This relative of the Giant Reed is more well behaved, but can still spread. Sun. Moist or wet soil.  2 m (6').  Zone:5
