(New
Zealand Flax) Tough dependable evergreen perennials, Phormiums are
useful for their dramatic effect in the garden or in containers.
Growing
outside in Zone 8, Phormiums prefer well-drained, moist,
fertile soil, though we have found that they will tolerate many other conditions
even a fair bit of drought. Give as much sun and
heat as you can, although they will also grow in some shade.
Phormiums
do have blooms - but most do not bloom dependably in our northern climate.
P. hookeri Tricolor is the only variety to consistently bloom here on the West
Coast. We have indicated in the descriptions which ones have bloomed at
our Nursery.
Phormiums are difficult to propagate and some
are slow to grow. Certain varieties
are in extremely short supply. To ensure getting some in your order, give substitutions.
We ship Phormiums with as much soil as possible, but
sometimes their roots don't hold the soil very well outside the pots.
As a result of this, we will only ship one gallon size Phormium.

apricot, yellow and green striping and bronze-green margins. The young foliage is creamy yellow.
